Clamshell Thrust Reverser

A thrust reverser that fits in the exhaust system of a turbojet engine. In normal operation, the clamshell doors form a part of the tail pipe, but when the reverser is deployed, the doors move into position to block the normal tail pipe and duct the exhaust gases around so they flow forward to oppose the forward movement of the aircraft.
