Carbon Seal

A rubbing seal in a gas turbine engine between a rotating shaft and a fixed housing. The seal, made of carbon, rides on a highly polished steel surface, and the close fit between the carbon and the steel keeps oil from flowing into the gas path of the engine. Carbon seals are high performance oil seals used in aircraft and industrial turbine engines.
