Anti-knock value

Antiknock value of petrol (gasoline) is nothing but the octane rating. Normal 87-90 octane is what the majority of engines are designed to use. As the compression ratio of the engine increases so does the requirement for a higher octane fuel to help retard pinging or knocking.
