hot start In gas turbine engines , a start which occurs with normal engine rotation , but exhaust temperature exceeds prescribed limits . This is usually caused by an excessively rich mixture or excessive fuel in the combustion chamber . The fuel to the engine must be terminated immediately to prevent engine damage .Prolonged exposure can cause serious damage to the turbine and combustion chamber. Fuel accumulation in the combustion chamber can be caused by a failed start and the possibility of a hot start at the next start is high. Usually, to prevent this situation, after an unsuccessful and aborted start, it is better to do a cranking and then observe the appropriate time for the next start.
