Skidding

Skidding is an uncoordinated flight condition in which the aircraft, while moving forward, has its tail swinging outward from the center of the turn. During a skid, the nose of the aircraft tends toward the inside of the turning curve (unlike slipping, where the nose tends toward the outside of the turning curve). The turn coordinator ball, in a skidding condition, moves to the outside of the turn. A skid results from excessive rudder application in the direction of the turn and is considered a pro-spin, dangerous condition with no safe use in normal flying.
